There are several common solutions to this problem.

First: Get a Wireless ADSL Modem Router with a longer range. Now, regulations in the EU put a limit on the output power of the transmitting devices. Second: Get and install wireless repeaters or extra stations between the floors. This configuration would allow extending the range almost indefinitely by chaining repeater together. This solution requires some extra technical knowledge and would increase equipment load in your home or office.

In fact if you set up ADSL Router manually (e.g. by accessing it using an IP address) then there is no such thing as compatibility issue. But for some users it is easier to use built-in wizards so only entering few lines like user name and password would be enough.

And in many cases the reason why some sites are showing while others are not is impossible to understand. Meanwhile the answer is quite simple. Philips makes decent ADSL Routers but they seem to be a bit overprotective. Many Websites use interactive approach, e.g. can check your screen resolution or browser to adjust themselves accordingly.
